Bottisham Lock, 7.30 am and it’s dark, cold, windy and raining. You think twice about getting out of the car and imagine just escaping somewhere for coffee and a croissant. Then you think again and go for it.
The sky breaks and the sun paints the clouds. You see mallard, fieldfares, mute swans, a cormorant, a kestrel, a dab chick, wood pigeons, great crested grebes and black headed gulls. The coffee and croissants are still there later and taste all the better.
