Blaise Pascal took a jaundiced view of travel, he argued: ‘All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone’, Pensees (mid-17th century). Xavier de Maistre seems to have taken him at his word and in 1790 undertook a voyage around his bedroom, later calling the account of what he had seen Journey Around My Bedroom.
In this spirit I have started a journey around my house and garden with a camera to capture the changing play of light and shade through the day and through the year. In the spirit of simplicity I’m using a Leica IIIf with 50mm f3.5 Elmar lens. This will be an ongoing project. No particular choice of film yet.
