George Mallory is famously quoted as having replied to the question, ‘Why did you want to climb Mount Everest?’ with the retort, ‘Because it’s there’. The same logic might be applied to photography. Why photograph this tree? Because it’s there, is beautiful and will make a good picture. This just leads to other questions. ‘What do you do when you’ve got to the top of a mountain?’/’What do you do with the photograph?’
