Wildlife Photographer of the Year

I visited the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum on the 22nd.  Wonderful pictures of wonderful things; and tragic pictures of tragic things.  All are tributes to technical mastery with sophisticated equipment, no doubt.  More importantly, they are the product of the photographers’ patience, knowledge of the subject and great fortitude – facing dangerous animals, wading through mud, standing in cold water and crawling through ice and snow.  Some of the pictures I admired most were of urban wildlife.  They are a reminder that we are not apart from the animal world, a world in which the inhabitants show great resilience in surviving alongside the ultimate predator.
