Mani 2

Mulberry trees found growing in some Kardamili gardens are left over from the silk industry.  Silk was produced up to the 1960s and sent to Kalamata.  ‘Morea’ come from the mulberry – the Morea was the name of the Peloponnese peninsula during the Middle Ages.   Olives, now ubiquitous, were introduced by the Venetians and replaced silk production.
