Automatonophobia

Gt St Mary's Passage, Cambridge 160706Sometimes mannequins deliberately have a spooky, disturbing and uncertain reality.  Many are headless, many are faceless; sometimes the head is just strange, sometimes deformed; occasionally a chimera takes centre stage.  Figures are left armless and legless; dismembered, invariably naked, body parts litter windows.   The slick hard sell becomes a zombie land of horrors.

Automatonophobia: the fear of anything that falsely represents a sentient being, includes, ventriloquist dummies, animatronic creatures, mannequins, scarecrows, and wax statues.
