In 1935 the K6 telephone kiosk (kiosk number six) was designed to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George V, so after 77 years it hardly constitutes urban ephemera in itself. However, the pink livery is ephemeral. And maybe their use is increasingly ephemeral – in the age of the mobile phone few people willingly use a public pay phone. Their main function seems to be as subjects for tourists to snap. Interesting that an icon of Britain embodies obsolescent technology.
