Early morning walk on the Fen edge between Landbeach and Cottenham. Blue, silver and gold in the skies. Grey lags honking nervously on the stubble; pheasants clattering and whirring out of hedges. Splashes followed by silent gentle ripples in the deep Beach Ditch. Roe deer standing nervously alert in the distance; corn cobs they have chewed close by along the field edge. Autumn’s chilly mists and scents; crimson hawthorn, dewy grass.
