    Brian,

My final working day, prior to retirement, will be Friday 23rd September. I know that this is a few weeks distant, but I am conscious how quickly diaries can become full !

As is customary on these occasions, (at least in Environment), the venue will be ‘Baroosh’, (formerly known as ‘B Bar’ and the old ‘Arts Cinema’), in Market Passage; (location plan attached). I have reserved the top-most floor for our exclusive use.

I would like to invite you to come and have a drink and a reminisce, between 4.00 pm. and 7.00 pm. on Friday 23rd September.

If you are unable to attend, I expect to be at my desk in Room 18, 2nd Floor of the Guildhall, for the two weeks prior to my retirement. Do please call in and have a chat if at all possible.

Thank you for your friendship and support during the many years, (nearly forty), that I have been here at the Guildhall.

    Regards,
    John Isherwood,
    (Engineering Projects Manager
    and lately Project Team Leader)

      Hi John,
Strange to receive a reply via this blog site, but vey welcome!
So you are finally taking the plunge – about time too, I can thoroughly recommend it.
I’ll be delighted to join you on 23rd.
      Brian

In reading A Time for Gifts, I came to the reference to Baron Pips and Kovecses. The Baron seemed a wonderful character on a par with the “polymath” earlier. Curious about what happened to both the Baron and the house during the war, I discovered your blog and was happy to find that Baron Pips survived and passed away in 1957 in Normandy. I did not search further but I hope that the house has been restored. The Kovecses passage made me curious to read Proust, which I’ve never done. Kierkegaard is as deep in the woods as I’ve ventured, but I hope to explore Proust soon. As you can gather, I’m no deep intellectual. Thank you so much for your blog.

    Hello,

Having just returned from Kardamyli, and having read your blog about the church where Bruce Chatwin’s ashes are buried, I am sure your two photos are of different churches. The one dated 2011 is not the same church as the one dated 2007, and is not called Agios Nikolaos, but another name, also beginning with an N, but more like Nivupol (we went to it in error).
