Bridges coffee shop, Tuesday 19th November; I’m on my way to the ‘Reading Women’ class. Outside with a black americano and an almond croissant; it’s mild for mid-November, but a brisk wind rattles the awning overhead. I dip into Women Photographers – Contemporaries 1970-today – Claude Batho, Jill Hartley, Ming Smith and 60 more – preparation for my U3A class in the New Year. Across the road two men in white overalls on scaffold tower are cleaning the St John’s College railings, which sway gently with the rhythm of their scrubbing and brushing.
