Profound Decisions, a company promoting ‘professional live role playing’ (LRP) has crowd funded the purchase of the Cottenham Point-to-Point site as a permanent home for its future meetings. It holds events inspired by Dungeons and Dragons and aims to provide experiences with ‘the immersion of watching a Hollywood movie’. Plans for the land include planting 20,000 trees over five years. I have fond memories of the course. My father took me there rough-shooting (only pigeons and rabbits) as a young teenager – we never shot much, but that wasn’t really the point. Then, late 50s – early 60s, part of the land was planted as an apple orchard and there were wet low-lying areas where we would flush out snipe and lapwing. Later memories are of going to point-to-point races. I wrote and illustrated a feature on the meetings for the Cambridgeshire Journal (February 1998, using the name James Frank). Two photographs from this were included in my photo book A Cambridgeshire Journal – Photographs 1982 – 1988 (2012), see below.
