View of Great North Fen from the embankment along Cottenham Lode yesterday. A brilliant April day, sunshine with a cooling breeze. Swallows skimmed over Lode Farm; a kestrel hunted, flap-glide-hover, along the Lode; a whitethroat sang its scratchy, cross, song from a hawthorn; and ragged corvids and a lone black headed gull followed the plough. A distant field of rape shone like a river of light in tilled loam.
