The saw-tooth shadows of the beach hut roofs cast by the setting sun is one of the motifs of Southwold for me.
The beach is shaped by longshore drift. At the north end by the pier the promenade is several feet above the beach; at the south end towards Gun Hill the sand is almost level with the promenade. Clearing the wind-blown sand from around the beach huts looks like a full-time, life-time, job for someone.
