Beech Tree

An extraordinary beech tree by the Romano-British burial mounds at Bartlow.  It has eight trunks emerging from a common root, the result of coppicing.  How long has it taken to grow into this woody octopus?

Regenerating Beech

At Wandlebury on Saturday to enjoy the autumn colours. Found this beech regenerating with eight new sturdy coppice-like growths shooting vertically from a fallen trunk.
