Brooks Jensen, editor of LensWork, is on a mission to challenge what he sees as the dominance of the single fine print as the acme of the photographer’s art. He says, ‘I think that the “greatest hit” or “hero image” framed on a wall has some terrible limitations’ (LensWork No. 160, August 2022). This, he says, results in making ‘décor’ and ‘pretty pictures’. His alternative is to develop creative ways of presenting multiple pictures, or ‘image suites’. One is the idea of trilogies, which feature three images put together as a group to explore a given subject. I’ve applied this approach to my New Year’s visit to Titchwell on the North Norfolk coast.
