Travels – Syria

In the previous four postings I have looked at different types of connections made through photography in the course of my travels. They are selective and personal, reflecting both subjects that interest me and visual images that I find rewarding. They are also what I call ‘real connections’, in that they exist in a material world and any other photographer might have seen and captured the same association.

In editing pictures for the travel collection I have been attempting to identify abstract connections, that is those that exist through my having brought the images together, connections that perhaps exist only in my mind. Would these be thought of as psychological, experiential or even metaphysical? Perhaps something of all three. Having tried hard to find pictures to express what I mean, I think that such connections can’t be readily revealed through the juxtaposition of two or three images, it may be that they will emerge only through the whole collection.

The two photographs below are from the initial edit of pictures.
