Yesterday we looked at organising and saving photography files, a worthy, important even, but dull subject.
Much more interesting was the exhibition of work by members of the Forum mounted at the U3AC offices. Eleven members showed twenty pictures, split between landscape (9), seascape (6) and townscape (5). The subjects were well-observed and technically well-photographed; overall the exhibition was well-presented and a credit to the Forum.
It was not clear how much of the work was new and how much a re-presentation of old material, more the latter than the former I think – the were some obvious give aways, like the Twin Towers and hoar frost that we haven’t seen yet this winter. It’s also fair to say that the work was largely very conventional, with little innovation in a topographical genre full of clichéd views. Two exceptions, perhaps: Saigon – Then and Now by Brian MacNab; and Under the Pier by Eleni Paliginios.
My contribution was two pictures of the Wissington sugar beet factory, one included in my post on Week 6 of the Forum (14th November 2023) and the other one shown here.
