The aim of today was to look at members’ photographs of architecture and townscape in the light of Graham’s presentation in week 7. Members submitted 34 of their photographs for viewing and discussion.
Subjects covered townscape, architecture and urban/architectural details. UK locations included Cambridge (17), London (3) and Manchester and Totnes (1 each); other countries represented included New Zealand (3), Australia (1), China (1), Czech Republic (1), Germany (1), Iceland (1), Russia (1) and USA (1); two were unidentified.
Pointers towards creating an impact included: looking up; highlighting details; using reflections; emphasising repetition; looking for symmetry; shifting the colour saturation (both up and down); and including or not including people. Being prevented from photographing by security guards was identified as a problem.
My three photographs are shown below. My approach was to look up, focus on details and try to capture a narrative about urban change and development.
