The Fountain of the Tritons in Trieste stands on Piazza Vittorio Veneto, in front of the post office. In the middle of the pool there are huge figures: two Tritons and a Nereid. They bend under a giant shell, from which streams of water flow. The Nereid rests on the pedestal, one hand throwing her hair from her face. The fountain, by Franz Schranz, was built by the order of the city authorities for the anniversary of the Emperor Franz Joseph I and was installed on the square in 1897.
