Nereid 1

Nereid 1, British Museum

Nereid from the Nereid Monument dating from around 380BC in the British Museum.  It was excavated in the early 1840s by Charles Fellows, a traveller and antiquary, at Xanthos in south western Turkey.  The monument was in ruins when he found it; sailors from the Royal Navy helped him to move it and ship it to Britain.
